What To Do If You Break Down
Driving can take you anywhere, whether that is a motorway, in the middle of a city, or on a country lane. Wherever you are, it’s really important that you know what to do in-case your vehicle ever breaks down.
I’ve broken down – what should I do?
- Where possible, try to gently manoeuvre your car to the side of the road or pavement.
- Put your hazard lights on. If it’s dark or foggy, you should also ensure that your side lights are on.
- Make sure all of your passeners safely exit the vehicle, to avoid any injuries caused by a traffic collision with your stationary vehicle. Move yourself and your passengers as far away from the vehicle as you can, remember to stand in a safe spot.
- If you have one, put your reflective jacket on and lay out your warning triangle at least 50 yards behind your card.
- Never stand-in between moving traffic and your vehicle.
- Next, call your breakdown recovery service, they will advise you of how long it will be before they reach you.
At Swansway Motor Group, all of our vehicles come with a free vehicle health check, to help minimise the event of a breakdown. During a vehicle health check, we will check your car and let you know of any potential problems with your car as well as how to address them.
If you have any questions at all, give your nearest dealership a call and we’ll talk you through it.
