How The Models Have Changed Since Release
In 1990, the T4 Transporter was released on the market. It was a dramatically updated van, which had a front-engine, front-wheel drive and water cooled engine. Later down the line, the T5 was introduced and it was obvious that there had not only been a big push to do something with the exterior, but also to make the interior more comfortable for the worker who would be using it. Over 1.65 million T5’s were built over the 12 years that they were being made,
The T5 offered two road lengths and three roof heights, making it the perfect choice for commercial use. The T5 became known as one of the most versatile vans in an industry that was already on the rise, and was becoming increasingly competitive.
The T6 then went even further, adding on things like emergency braking, a revised interior, power steering and other efficiency improvements. This was a fantastic addition to the industry, and is one of the most popular commercial vans on the market right now.
What Models Are Available?
A wide range of models were offered. These included the panel van, kombi, double cab, pickup, and chassis with single and double cab options. There was also the Caravelle, and the Multivan depending on what your needs were. Some of these have been carried into the new era with the Volkswagen Transporter 6.1, while others are on a bit of a backburner right now.
If you have specific requirements for your van, then let us know and we will be able to help you choose the correct one that will suit all of your needs.

The Different Trim Levels
If you aren’t a van person, you might be wondering what exactly a trim is and why it is important. The trim is referring to the features that are on a specific van. For example, the same van is going to have a number of different trims, including different safety features, different features in the interior and so on.
The T5 and the T6 are the most common type of Transporter to purchase these days, because they are the newer versions. But, there are three different trims available for you to choose from. The T4 Transporter is the first trim that was released, followed by the T5 a number of years later. Each has their own little quirks with different features on the T5. Finally, there is the T6 transporter which is the newest of the range, and started back in 2016. The latest version of this is the T6.1 which has seen some major improvements to the safety of the Transporter, especially if you look back at the safety precautions in the T4 models.
Volkswagen ended up reducing the fuel tank capacity on the T6 model. This is one of the biggest differences between the T4/5 and the T6, especially seeing as new technology was added to aid fuel consumption. Volkswagens’ Bluemotion Technology was added to the T6 in order to decrease fuel consumption, making it the more economical out of the three models available.
As well as this, the technology in the interior is also where a huge difference is noticed. The T6 has a 5-inch touchscreen, heated windscreen and Bluetooth to ensure a more comfortable ride, and making the drive more enjoyable overall. While the T5 does have some technology such as color coded bumpers and a multifunction steering wheel, it still lacks behind the T6. The T4 does not offer anything like its two successors, making them superior in terms of tech.
Startline VS Highline
The Startline and Highline are two models of the Transporter. The Highline is the more advanced of the two, but what makes them different? The first thing is the fact that the Startline, being the more basic model, doesn’t have parking sensors like the Highline does. The Highline also has a body colored bumper which isn’t available for the Startline, making them look different.
The Highline also has air conditioning which is essential for a comfortable journey on a hot day, but this isn’t available with the Startline model which is definitely something you need to think about.
