The CUPRA Leon is a hot hatchback that builds on the model’s long history of fun and performance. It’s more powerful than the Golf GTI and ideal for anyone who wants a fun, nippy, high performance vehicle in a compact chassis.
CUPRA supplies the new Leon in a host of engine options. Buyers get to choose from a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol capable of developing either 242 bhp or 296 bph, depending on the configuration, as well as a 1.4-litre plugin hybrid, with an 148 bhp petrol engine paired with a 113 bhp e-motor.
In terms of pure speed, the CUPRA Leon is on a par with super cars from thirty years ago. It rockets passengers from standstill to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds (if you choose the estate version), while the 294 bhp hatchback will do it in around 5.7 seconds.
What’s more, if you opt for the plugin hybrid version, you can get all that performance without the concomitant CO2 emissions. CUPRA says that the vehicle only emits around 32 g/km CO2 under lab testing conditions – ideal for anyone wanting to be in the bottom emissions bracket.
