Volkswagen’s Caddy has traditionally been a go-to choice for those drivers who want the practicality of a van but on a smaller, more easy-to-park vehicle. Recently updated, the Caddy brings more technology into the mix as well as efficient engines. Needless to say, there’s a lot to talk about. So let’s dive in and find out what this latest Caddy has to offer.
The Caddy has been designed to a multitude of different uses. A long wheelbase version, for example, has enough space in the back for two Euro pallets, while sliding doors and a tailgate give a great amount of access to the rear section of the car.
A brand new platform underneath has allowed Volkswagen’s engineers to maximise the amount of space that the Caddy can offer, which will help with the van’s various different layouts.
Volkswagen has really upped the ante when it comes to technology on the Caddy 5. As such, you now get the firm’s clever Virtual Cockpit system for the first time on the van. This replaces the traditional dials ahead of the driver with a high-definition screen, which not only displays key readouts such as speed and revs, but can also be used to showcase satellite navigation functions and media selections.
The Caddy Cargo’s storage space has been designed to give you easy access to everything you need to get the job done. The Caddy Cargo is full of surprises. Even though it has a compact design, it’s capable of transporting up to 700 kg with ease, this includes up to 100 kg on the roof.
The new Caddy embraces leading advanced safety and driver assistance systems. In total, 19 systems work together to help keep you safe and reduce stress behind the wheel, manoeuvre easily when towing with Trailer Assist, and stay safer on motorways thanks to travel assist, combining lane assist and adaptive cruise control to keep you a safe distance from other vehicles, as well as pedestrian recognition technology. City Emergency Braking helps you break if a potential collision is detected. This practical Caddy also house the Driver Alert system which will warn you when you need to take a break from driving.
The new Caddy offers simplified driving with access to Volkswagen’s We Connect technology and autonomous emergency braking, as standard. WeConnect enables the driver to drive smarter, monitoring vehicle data, use the built-in safety features or upgrade to We Connect Plus for internet-enabled navigation and streaming services.

The Volkswagen Caddy Cargo is available with a choice of two engines. Both are equipped with particle features which make them efficient on the road. The petrol engine is available as one variant whereas, there is a choice of three diesel power outputs. The Caddy Cargo also comes with the 4MOTION system, which means power can be distributed as needed among the four wheels giving you a smoother, more stable performance when driving.
A range of engines include an entry level 75PS TDI and the best-selling 102PS TDI, alongside a brand new 122PS diesel and a 114PS petrol variant. Higher-power models will also benefit from the option of direct-shift gearbox (DSG) transmission.
Thanks to twin dosing technology, the Caddy’s diesel engines are among some of the cleanest on sale today and Volkswagen predicts that the new Caddy’s predicted fuel consumption is up to twelve per cent lower than that returned on the previous-generation van.
